Oil Executive Amoral? Say It Ain’t So!

I remember a while back watching some late-night Discovery Channel show about a sheik’s palace. They showed the bedroom, which was gorgeous and overlooked the pool, and went on to say that this proximity to the patio below was for a purpose. Specifically, the sheik’s entourage would scour the streets looking for nubile young women to bring back to their master. After he was done with them, he would have them thrown out the window. If they made it to the pool, and could swim, well then good for them. And, yes, I was horrified by this, but found myself sort of morbidly fascinated with it as well. Because, hell, if ever there was a question as to whether this guy was an immoral power-hungry despot, I think having a recently-raped virgin flung from his balcony without checking on what happened afterwards…that pretty much answers it. It’s just so totally and unapologetically evil, but entirely appropriate for what he was.

I am reminded of this when I read the following:

Pierce Onthank, the president of an oil and gas company, is charged with illegal possession of a primate for keeping a siamang, a type of gibbon that is native to rain forests in Malaysia and Indonesia and can weigh up to 30 pounds and stand 3 feet high.

Amoral douche? Sure. But I will give him credit for being the very personification of an amoral douche, the quintessential a-hole. Well played, sir.
